Dr. med. Carola Aicham-Sonntag, gynaecologist and obstetrician

My career

I was born in Ulm and went to school in Neu-Ulm. At Neusprachliches Gymnasium I learnt Latin, as well as English, French and Italian, and completed my Abitur in 1973.


I began studying Biology at the University of Ulm in winter 1973, changing to the University of Marburg in 1976 where I completed studies in human medicine in 1977. Between 1977 and 1980 I conducted deepened my studies in biology and human medicine at Heidelberg University. I held my internship at Ulm University Clinic 1980-1981.


Exams and Degrees: Biology Vordiplom, October 1975; State Examination and Approbation, April 1981; Doctoral thesis on Hypermobility and Scoliosis (Promotion), January 1981.


In 1977 I learnt Spanish at the University of Córdoba (Spain). I spent several months in visitation at hospitals in Peru 1978, then further improved my language skills at the Heidelberg Institute of Translators.


Between April 1981 and September 1983, I worked as assistant surgeon at Ulm University Clinic with emphasis on vessel- and thoracic surgery. From October 1983 to March 1986 I was intern at the gynaecological-obstetric Department of Knappschaft Hospital, Recklinghausen.


In April 1986 I moved to Berlin and gave birth to my first daughter. From October of that year to Mai 1991 I worked at Berlin University Clinic for Women, Pulsstraße. I gave birth to two more children and completed my Certificate Examination in gynaecology and obstetrics in Mai 1991. The Hospital Berlin-Moabit invited me as Visiting Doctor to the Department for Natural Medicine in October and November 1991.


Between March 1992 and March 1993 I stood in at the gynaecological practice of Dr. Bauer in

Berlin. In 1993 I became established as a medical practitioner and registered in Berlin.


Between July 1993 and 2008 I worked with my husband, Dr. Bernhard Sonntag, in our joint surgical practice on Nollendorfplatz in Berlin-Schöneberg. During this time I attained qualifications in “Natural Healing Methods”.


After moving the surgical practice to Wittenbergplatz, I widened my spectrum of work to include travel- and preventive medicine.


Since October 2013 I am in charge of the surgical practice at Wittenbergplatz.
